During times of stress and transition, it's crucial to prioritize mental and emotional health as well as physical health. Seeking support from trusted friends, family members, or mental health professionals can be a helpful way to cope with difficult life events. It's essential to prioritize self-love and self-compassion rather than striving for societal expectations of beauty and perfection.
In an interview with InStyle, Khloe Kardashian opened up about how her divorce from Lamar Odom motivated her to prioritize her health and wellness. Kardashian, who was 38 at the time of the interview, revealed that she "turned to the gym" during the challenging period when her marriage with the former NBA star was crumbling.
She elaborated on how this journey began in December 2013, when she filed for divorce from Odom, whom she had married in September 2009 after a brief one-month courtship.
During the interview with InStyle, Kardashian revealed that she had become "obsessive" about her weight around the time of her divorce. However, she emphasized that as she became older and more experienced with fitness, she began to prioritize her overall health and well-being over the numbers on a scale.
"The scale can be really deceptive and damaging to your mental health. I don't even bother with it anymore. It's just numbers," Kardashian shared.
Kardashian also shared that she turned to exercise as a way to cope with the challenges of her divorce. "When I was going through my divorce, I didn't know what to do. But working out at the gym gave me a sense of accomplishment and helped me focus on something positive," she explained.
As someone who values control in her life, Kardashian found that exercise gave her a sense of control and release. "I'm a control freak, and I'm proud of it. But in life, we can't control everything. The gym is one place where I know what I put in. I'll get out. And it's a great stress relief. Even on days when I don't feel like working out, I push myself to go because I know I'll feel better afterward," Kardashian stated.
Overall, Kardashian's journey towards a healthier lifestyle was a result of a difficult period in her life, but it ultimately helped her prioritize her mental and physical well-being.
As per People magazine, Kardashian and Odom's divorce was finalized in July 2015. However, in October of the same year, Kardashian halted the proceedings after Odom's drug overdose at a Las Vegas adult establishment and supported him during his recovery. Kardashian later filed for divorce again in May 2016, and the divorce was finalized in December of that year, People reported.
Odom has publicly expressed remorse for his past behavior towards Kardashian numerous times, including in his May 2019 memoir, "Darkness to Light: A Memoir." After the divorce, Kardashian went on to date NBA player Tristan Thompson, with whom she has two children. However, their relationship ended after Thompson's infidelity.
